Phil Foden has the potential to go on and emulate what Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have performed of their illustrious careers, talkSPORT has been informed.
The Man City teenager, who gained the PFA’s Younger Participant of the Yr award for the 2020/21 season, has already earned comparisons with the likes of England legend Paul Gascoigne after establishing himself as a first-team common on the Etihad Stadium.
And former England striker Michael Owen, who burst on the scene as an 18-year-old at World Cup 1998, believes the sky is the restrict for the proficient midfielder.
“We’ve obtained so many good children, however he’s the one. I have a look at him and assume he could possibly be something. World, world class,” Owen informed talkSPORT Breakfast.
“We’re speaking the [Lionel] Messi’s and [Cristiano] Ronaldo’s which can be going to complete within the coming years and we’re all wanting on the subsequent era of nice gamers.
“I feel from the England perspective he could possibly be an absolute world-class participant for years and years to come back. I simply hope he retains growing in that means.”
However whereas Owen can’t communicate extremely sufficient of Foden’s expertise, he provided him a phrase of warning amid a possible media frenzy off the pitch – which he is aware of all too properly about.
“I don’t assume he wants to vary on the pitch as he’s in his component – he’s at dwelling and feels relaxed,” Owen added.
“It’s off the pitch [where it gets intense]. I wouldn’t say I struggled however you assume ‘wow’, it hits you.
“The press, the stress, the ten automobiles following you round for the subsequent six months as a result of everybody’s serious about what store you’re going to stroll into and what hairdressers you’re going to.
“They wish to know extra about your life than we at the moment know. All we wish to know in the mean time is how good Phil Foden is and the way far he can go in his profession.
“However if you happen to come again a celebrity then they wish to know completely every little thing… what you’re consuming, the way you sleep, simply every little thing.
“And that’s fairly intrusive and that’s one thing he’ll must adapt to.”
