Current Wigan Athletic star Tom Pearce has been impressing a number of scouts in the Premier League and Championship. The former Leeds United and England under 20 and under 21 international has impressed in a Wigan Athletic side that has lost the last 2 games in League one after falling into administration earlier this summer.
We understand at least seven clubs are interested in the player with Burnley, Newcastle, QPR, Preston North End, Sheffeild Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City are among the front runners.
He only managed to make just seven appearances in the Championship for the Latics last term. The club are very keen to hold on to the player and consider him a key part of the rebuilding the club as Pearce is a player with plenty of potential to be developed over the coming years. The player is said to be technically comfortable and excellent delivery from wide positions.
He has good defensive capabilities and works hard in and out of possession. Pearce started his football education at Everton before finishing off at Leeds United, he was tipped to become the next big player after he broke through to the Leeds first team and many people wthin Leeds compared Pearce to Leeds legend Ian Harte.
He then was sent to Scunthorpe United to gain experience and found his pathway blocked to which Wigan Athletic swooped to take him to the DW Stadium just over 12 months ago on a low fee. Given Wigan’s problems off the field the above clubs might be able to get Pearce for under £1m despite him still having two–years left on his current deal, and if they could secure his signature then it could represent a smart business.
